ABB, the world’s leading power and automation technology group, announced that it will provide a 363 kV high-voltage isolated circuit breaker with an all fiber current transformer for the Shaanxi Fuping Intelligent Substation. This circuit breaker combines three substation functions: isolation, circuit breaking, and current measurement, reducing the substation’s footprint by up to 70%. At the same time, it is also the world’s first isolated circuit breaker equipped with fiber optic current transformers at this high voltage level.

All fiber current transformers will replace traditional current transformers used for measurement and protection in integrated intelligent switches, and create conditions for grid automation. In the northwest region of China, the voltage level of 363 kV is the most common. This application is also the first commercial application of the isolated circuit breaker technology at this voltage level.

As part of the new generation intelligent substation project planned by State Grid Corporation of China in 2015, Shaanxi Fuping Intelligent Substation will provide electricity for the rapidly developing industrial belt around Fuping County, Shaanxi Province.
