Voltage and current adaptation
When selecting a driver, the first step is to determine the rated current and rated voltage of the stepper motor. The maximum output current and voltage of the driver must meet the requirements of the motor. Meanwhile, since the output current of the driver can be adjusted within a certain range, it is also necessary to consider whether the adjustment range of the driver’s output current can meet the needs of the motor.
Torque adaptation
Torque is one of the important parameters of stepper motors, which reflects the ability of the motor to overcome load torque. When selecting a driver, it is necessary to determine the torque required by the load carried by the motor and choose a driver that can meet this requirement. If the torque of the driver is too small, it may cause the motor to malfunction; If the torque is too large, it may waste energy or increase costs.
Equal number of phases
When selecting a driver, it is necessary to ensure that the number of phases of the driver matches the number of phases of the stepper motor. If the number of phases does not match, it may cause the motor to malfunction or reduce control accuracy.
Subdivision requirements
The subdivision requirement refers to the ability of the driver to subdivide the step angle of the stepper motor. The higher the subdivision, the smoother the motion of the motor and the higher the control accuracy. When selecting a driver, it is necessary to determine the required segmentation requirements based on application needs and choose a driver that can meet these requirements.
Control signals and methods
When selecting a driver, it is also necessary to consider the type and control method of the control signal. Common control signals include pulse/direction, step/direction, etc. There are two control methods: open-loop control and closed-loop control. Open loop control is simple and reliable, but with slightly lower accuracy; Closed loop control can improve accuracy but has a complex structure. Choosing appropriate control signals and control methods based on application requirements is of great significance for ensuring the normal operation of the system and improving control accuracy.
Maximum speed and torque
When selecting a driver, it is also necessary to consider the maximum speed and required torque of the stepper motor. If high speed is required in the application, it is necessary to choose a motor with larger phase current and smaller inductance, and use a higher supply voltage to increase power input when selecting the driver. If the load is large, it is necessary to choose motors and drivers with high torque to meet the requirements.
